Burger King, FOX Apologize for Mocking Jessica Simpson

After a less-than-sensitive cartoon commercial that mercilessly mocked Jessica Simpson during FOX’s NFL Sunday last week, the network and Burger King apologized for the ad.

“Burger King did not have any editorial input in the creation of the animation that ran last Sunday, and no one from Burger King Corp., approved it before it aired,” FOX said in a statement. “Upon reflection, our poor attempt at humor was insensitive, and we deeply apologize to anyone who might have been offended.”

In the commercial, cartoon versions of the Cowboys ribbed ex-boyfriend Tony Romo for dating her, skewered Simpson, 29, and for her weight gain after their breakup.

“Man, I still can’t believe Tony dated Jessica Simpson, even after she blew up bigger than Flozell Adams!” Marion Barber said.

“Unlike Tony, at least Jessica comes up big when it counts!” Jason Witten responded.

And the cartoon version of coach Wade Phillips adds, “Say Tony, is Jessica around? We could use a defensive tackle!”
